Cantabile Mentorship Program
Opportunity for Aspiring Conductors:
We are looking for an apprentice conductor who is interested in the field of conducting, and looking for experience to work with a chamber choir. This ideally would be a student in a college/university program, so that they will have more exposure to singing with a chamber choir, conducting assigned music during rehearsal, and working one-on-one with Artistic Director Cheryll Chung. They will also receive feedback from the choir, and educators in the choir.
Who is eligible:
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program.
- Have a basic understanding of conducting gestures, score study, and rehearsal strategies.
- Be able to attend all relevant rehearsals and performances.
- Have choral singing experience
- Have basic keyboard skills
Time commitment:
- attend all scheduled rehearsals and concerts (3 shows a year)
- 10-15 minutes review and coaching weekly one-on-one
- Podium time to be discussed
- Prepare scores ahead of time
- Study scores independently
What it looks like:
- Receive direct feedback from conductor and singers
- Review rehearsal footage with conductor
- Singing in the choir
- Running warm-ups
- Running rehearsals for music that was discussed ahead of time
- Conduct one piece at a concert
- Review conductor footage for the concert
